A Foo dog, also known as a Chinese guardian lion or "shishi," is a symbolic statue of a lion-dog from ancient China that is believed to possess mystical powers of protection. These statues, traditionally placed in pairs at the entrances of temples, imperial palaces, and important buildings, symbolize power, wealth, and Feng Shui harmony, and are thought to ward off evil spirits and negative energy, while the male often guards the exterior and the female the interior.
